Tourist time

Wednesday March 24th, 2021.

Tourist day! But first, Salvos and Vinnies in town. Left empty handed. Wangaratta town streets are paid parking, I think everyone parks in the supermarket carparks.

Keen to see what Milawa has to offer, we drive in that direction.

Due to Covid, Milawa Cheese  do tastings as usual, but tasting plates are available for $10. Chevre, ashed chevre, goat camembert, cow camembert, brie, King River Gold, cheddar and Milawa Blue. We buy some cheddar and also some fig salami. I wish they had a salami tasting plate!

Milawa Mustards next, then Brown Brothers. Just for a look, but I end up doing a tasting. Bit disappointing, the Pinot Grigio smells and tastes of nothing and when I point that out, a fresh bottle is opened and it’s better. We were going to purchase some wine, but we were left sitting way too long, so we left. It’s not like they were busy! One staff member was conducting a ‘guided’ wine tasting with another couple, and we were the only other ones there. Apparently the guy that set me up with the wine had better things to do than to check in on me.

Milawa Bakery for lunch. Trevor feels like a sausage roll, but they’re all gone, so we have a pie. Haven’t had a pie for ages and this one is good. Mine was plain, Trevor had steak and red wine.

It’s only 2pm so there’s time to do a quick run over to Glenrowan and soak up some Ned Kelly history. If the weather was better we probably would have stayed longer, but we just did a quick drive around the historic sites; the Glenrowan Inn, Glenrowan railway station and the site of Ned’s capture. Such is Life.
